WE'LL COME TO YOU.

Since we aren't on every social media site, let us come to you. Enter your email below and we'll send you our monthly handwritten newsletter. It will be written during the hours of moonrise, and include featured posts, wild tangents, and rowdy stick figures.

Keep the beautiful pen busy.

Handwritten is a place and space for pen and paper. We showcase things in handwriting, but also on handwriting. And so, you'll see dated letters and distant postcards alongside recent studies and typed stories.

Letters

Welcome to Life's Letters, curated by Carly Butler. This column seeks to illuminate a simple truth: every family has a story. From a single letter to a chest of intimate exchanges, these pieces of the past reorient the way we experience the present by inspiring, informing, and connecting us to them, ourselves, and others. Every other week, you'll find new stories of lives preserved by pen and paper. To share yours with Carly and submit to Life's Letters, email carly@handwrittenwork.com.

Carly Butler is a writer, photographer and customer relations coordinator at a bank. What began as a journey of retracing the steps of her grandmother four years ago has turned into a blog, forthcoming book, and calling: she has been invited to speak about the legacy of letters and the wisdom of past generations to university students, historical organizations, and genealogy groups. Her story has been featured in media outlets such as BBC Breakfast, The Times, London’s Evening Standard, BuzzFeed, Huffington Post, Today Show, Good Morning America, the Global News, and more. Currently, she lives in British Columbia, Canada with her husband Adam.
